i could get a new car. which would be nice. but i do already have a car.

i’ve always wanted a horse. i loaned my lovely tatiana for a year and i’ve been riding since i was 9 and looking after other people’s horses who couldn’t ride them, but it would be nice to have my own.

this only thing is i don’t know how busy my course will be next year.

i’ll have to ask the tutors because there’s some amazing livery places around here. it all depends how much work we’ll have because there’s a lot more independent study next year.

so it’s the grand national tomorrow.

two horses have already died on the aintree track this thursday and today. ‘battlefront’ was pulled up and suffered a heart attack at the 11th and ‘little josh’ hit a fence, broke his shoulder and had to be put down.

i’m not against racing in the slightest - i love it. but the national has constantly caused multiple equine deaths each year - 2 last year, 2 the year before that etc - and it makes me question whether it’s worth it. it’s easy to argue that the fences are too big, the course too long, the field of runners too big. And to hear katie walsh say ‘they’re horses at the end of the day’ as way of an explanation doesn’t endear me to the race at all. i know there are fatalities all the time in the sport, and i’m not saying ban it. i just think it should be adapted to make it safer for horse and rider. just having a smaller number of runners could help - 40 horses is just too much when out of that number only 15 finished last year.

will be watching tomorrow with tightly crossed fingers that there aren’t any equine fatalities this year.
